Martial Arts & Taekwondo Messages

On the 29th of April, as part of Olympic Martial Arts Centre’s DEMO TEAM, we had the honour of performing a demonstration at the Turkish Cypriot Festival. Our performance involved the demonstration of a myriad of martial arts techniques including Board Breaking, Weapons demonstration and explosive pad work, as well as many more.

On the 6th of May, the Victorian Taekwondo Championships where held. I competed in the Black Belt Cadets division, losing in the semi-finals to a very experienced fighter who put up a tough fight. So I am proud to announce that I brought home a Bronze Medal from the State Championships this year. I will be competing in another State Championship in September, which this competition will be a selections event for the Australian National Championships.

Taekwondo Messages

I started Taekwondo when I was 9 years old and wasn’t very interested in it at the time. About 3 months after I started going to taekwondo, I was introduced to poomsae. Poomsae was very interesting to me and it helped me push myself to my limits. When I became a black belt I started to do higher level poomsae classes and I was introduced to the competition side of it. I learnt that you have to have certain technique and accuracy to get higher points when competing. You also have to have very good presentation and your blocks and kicks have to be strong. I started competing at the start of 2017 and all of the competitions I have been to have been very memorable. I have been to 4 competitions so far and these competitions are:

State
Nationals
Club championships
And the ATV Autumn Open

From all of these competitions altogether I have gotten:

2 bronze
3 silver
And 3 gold medals

I’m hoping to go to more and more competitions in the future and I hope to win a lot of gold medals.

I started taekwondo when I was about 8 years old because of a bullying incident at school.

While at taekwondo I was introduced to poomsae where it was all about accuracy and technique. after 3 years of taekwondo just before I got my black belt I wanted to give up but I though why not become a black belt then stop doing it. After I got my black belt I went to a couple of classes and it inspired me, I felt like I had something I was good at, so I kept going. 3 years into becoming a black belt I have attended many competitions. One of the competitions I have attended was the nationals in Bendigo. I competed for poomsae teams where I won a bronze medal out of several competing teams and a silver medal for individuals. Before I attended nationals, I competed at the state competition where I won bronze for individuals, silver for pairs, bronze for siblings and gold for teams.

Taekwondo gave me the skill to not give up whether it is not giving up in taekwondo or in anything else in life like if you want to achieve a high GPA or become a doctor, it’s up to you. If you set your mind to something and not give up you will make it in the end.

At the final round our students’ SupremeBot competed against Wesley College and Mentone Grammar, and we won the competition by speed.
